Predicting and Mitigating RF Co-Site Interference Aboard Ships

Ship design from concept to launching is a complex task for any shipyard. A global team effort is required to achieve an appropriately balanced ship design with an optimized overall performance. Within this platform, 3D electromagnetic (EM) simulation can be used to assess electromagnetic environmental effects (E3). Aboard ships, E3 result from both natural and man-made sources (communication antennas, radar, cables and electronics). Naval ships in particular, but also civilian ships, host a large number of connected antennas to transmit and receive signals, resulting in extremely complex EM environments. It is essential for safe ship operation that all electronic ship functions work properly despite these harsh conditions.
