To make matters difficult, fatigue is without doubt one of the most complex branches of mechanical and material engineering. This complexity refers in particular to the number of unknowns that influence any attempt to predict the durability of a single machine element or an entire mechanical structure.

Additive manufacturing brings an unprecedented number of variables into play, which all affect the part quality and its resulting performance when in end use. Fatigue life prediction of additively manufactured components is an active area of research, with many challenges to overcome in the near future.

In this episode of our additive manufacturing deep dive series, we will demonstrate a practice oriented methodology, as a proposal for systematic assessment of additively manufactured parts. This method combines advanced additive manufacturing process simulation with a state-of-the-art durability algorithm.
